The following is an excerpt from the January 2001 Alumni Newsletter. www.nd.edu/~alumnet Angelo Capozzi Jr., M.D., '56 of Tiburon CA received the Dr. Thomas A. Dooley Award on Jan. 26, during meetings of the Alumni Board. While dedicated to his family, his medical practice and the ND Club of San Francisco, Angelo has traveled to underdeveloped countries every year since 1976-first as a volunteer surgeon for InterPlast. In 1992, he co-founded Rotaplast International Inc., which performs free reconstructive surgery to correct cleft lip and palate/ craniofacial anomalies on children. He has been directly or indirectly responsible for reconstructive surgery on some 2,000 children. Rotoplast's work in Chile in 1995 was the subject of a CBS "Eye on America" feature. Its mission is to partner with Rotary Clubs throughout the world to eliminate untreated cleft lips and palates in children by 2025. Angelo 's medical missions have taken him to Mexico, Haiti, Honduras, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nepal, Africa and India. During six to ten days of 10- to 14-hour surgeries his abounding energy has been noted as an inspiration to other volunteers. Angelo also provides free surgery to children brought to the U.S. from Third World countries. He received his M.D. from Loyola University in 1960. Angelo and his wife, Louise, have three children, Angelo III '83, Leonard and Jeanne.
