REFLECTIONS FROM THE DOME Gwynn Wilson, the graduate manager of the USC football team, proposed a series between the Trojans and Notre Dame. In November, 1925, he traveled to meet Knute Rockne, and discussed the idea. The following is the fascinating story of how this great rivalry began. We also give an account of the first Notre Dame - USC game described by Rockne as "The greatest game I ever saw." Both these accounts are from Cameron Applegate's excellent book on the series call "The Game Is On."
Again, a football team manager suggested an idea that was the impetus for one of greatest victories in Notre Dame football history. Here is the story of the famous "Green Jersey Game." SHENANIGANS This month we have another "Ziggie story" from the Ziggie Czarobski, the Notre Dame team jester in the late forties. Also an anecdote from "Out of Bounds" from USC Coach John McKay. |
CAMPUS LIFE Campus Life will feature inspirational stories from the past and present about the spirit of the Notre Dame community. This excerpt is taken from Thomas Stritch's book, "My Notre Dame: Memories and Reflections of Sixty Years." Mr. Stritch is a Professor Emeritus of American Studies at Notre Dame, and in his epilogue gives a delightful tour of the campus, describing his favorite trees, buildings, lakes and other special places.
